Product Description: This Large Reinhardt Heydrich Portrait once hung in the office of the headquarters of the SD and Sicherheitspolizei in The Hague, Netherlands. It’s a large format photo print, apparently a real silver print from a negative, showing a crisp and detailed image of Heydrich in SS uniform. This photo print was framed in the past and is mounted to a backing of thin card stock. The reverse side of this backing is well marked with a stamp showing that this photo was once part of the inventory of the “Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD für die besetzten niederländischen Gebiete” (High Command of the Sicherheitspolizei and SD for occupied Netherlands) in Den Haag, dated April 1942. There is also a round “Dienststempel” stamp for this same command. The top of the reverse has a piece of tape that once helped retain this in a frame, which is stamped by the framer, Victor Kopacz in Berlin. This large Reinhardt Heydrich Portrait is a true piece of history. The condition rates as excellent.

The first German made camera that could be bought new for less than a day’s wages for an average worker appeared in the early 1930s and sparked a massive trend of amateur photographers recording snapshots from their daily lives, something that would continue unabated to the present. But the photo studios remained, with high-quality cameras recording images of anyone with the money to pay for them. Today, historical photographs exist mostly in the form of prints made from negatives at the time. These original prints give us a window into the past and are appreciated not only for the historical information they contain, but for their aesthetic beauty.
