Product Description: This Order Of Medjidjie Second Class Breast Star is made of a silver multi piece construction. The red enamel central motif of this Order Of Medjidjie remains completely intact with no chipping or discoloration. The seven pointed star, consisting of two separate pieces, is intricately set with many hundreds of imitation diamond inlays. This must have taken the worker may hours of labor to complete such a task. The base star is produced of silver, and has developed a very slight patina on the outer edges of the star, giving a nice contrasting appearance to the award. The reverse side of this Order Of Medjidjie retains its original hardware setup, with delicate Imperial style elongated hinge, tapering pin, large “C” catch. The hardware is flanked by two “fangs” for additional securing to the uniform also remain intact on the reverse. The central reverse disc is both mint marked, and, marked with the Tughra of the Sultan on the reverse. An impressive and beautiful Period Original Order Of Medjidjie First Class Breast Star of the First World War in overall excellent condition.
Historical Description: The Order Of Medjidjie was instituted in 1851 by Sultan Abdülmecid as recognition for distinguished service to members of the British and French Armies who came to the aid of the Ottoman Empire during the Crimean War against Russia. Later, during the First World War, this award was bestowed to Germans, Austrians, and Bulgarians who assisted the Ottoman Empire in their fight against the Allied Powers. The award design consisted of a seven point quilled star with a central enamel motif. The motif consisted of Sultan Abdülmecid’s royal cipher with the left to right inscription: “You have crossed; You have proven correct; You have protected”, center inscription: “1248”, and bottom inscription: “In the name of the God the forgiver, the merciful.”
