Historical Description:  “Beauty with Stigma” – Allach Porcelain manufacturing began in 1935 as a private company established by Franz Nagy and Karl Diebitsch near the small Munich suburb of Allach. Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler, known for his deep involvement in Germanic history and Aryan mysticism, took a special interest in the Allach porcelain manufacturing company. He felt that porcelain figurines of extraordinary quality, and by the most talented artists in Germany, could best represent Germanic and SS culture. The factory was acquired by the SS in 1936, and by 1939 its main offices were located in Berlin. With the increase of production under the SS, the factory was moved to within 16km of the Dachau Concentration Camp and became Dachau sub-camp “Allach”. The SS recruited only the most talented artists of the period such as Theodor Kärner, Adolf Röhring, Karl Diebitsch, Franz Nagy, etc. The result after nine years of existence was some of the finest quality porcelain products Germany had ever produced. Examples of the works produced by Allach were animals in great variety, plates, candelabras, bowls, figurines, goblets, historical figures, and the very (in)famous “SS-Julleuter” Candle Base.  Many of these porcelain figurines were produced in very limited numbers during the period. Allach porcelain was strictly controlled by the SS and while certain pieces could be purchased by the public at their Allach showrooms, some were reserved as special gifts or awards to be gifted or awarded only by ranking members of the SS such as Heinrich Himmler or Oswald Pohl.  Today, even with its dark history, Allach porcelain is still regarded as some of the finest porcelain produced and is highly sought after by collectors all over the world.
