Product Description: This silver NSDAP cap eagle is a very attractive piece of insignia, in outstanding, near mint plus condition. It’s a high quality piece, likely made in the late 1930s before wartime conditions affected the manufacture of insignia like this. It is made of aluminum. The obverse shows no wear, and all of the original detail is intact, with only extremely tiny marks to the surface. The reverse is entirely textbook and all original, with three sheet brass prongs. This silver NSDAP cap eagle is nicely marked in raised lettering with the round emblem of the Reichszeugmeisterei as well as the maker code “M1/44” indicating manufacture by the firm of C. Dinsel, Berlin. The attachment prongs are held in place with the original crimps and show only very slight age toning. There are no bends or any other indication this eagle was ever affixed to a cap. This eagle has wonderful visual appeal and would be virtually impossible to upgrade.
Historical Description: Adolf Hitler was an army veteran in 1919. Frustrated by Germany’s defeat in World War I, he joined a new political organization called the German Workers’ Party. The organization was founded earlier that same year and promoted German nationalism. Members of this organization felt that the Treaty of Versailles was extremely unjust to Germany, by burdening it with reparations it could never pay. Hitler became the leader of this party in 1921 and changed the name to The National Socialist German Workers’ Party; Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP). In 1933, Hitler became chancellor of Germany and his Nazi government soon assumed dictatorial powers. After Germany’s defeat in World War II the Nazi party was outlawed.
