Product Description: We are very excited to be able to offer this extremely rare Eickhorn Gold Government Officials Dagger. The Gold Government Officials Dagger is one of the most obscure Third Reich Daggers. Limited in production number when compared to the normal Government Officials Dagger, the Gold Government Officials Dagger is believed to have been worn by Government Officials in Eastern European Countries. We just recently acquired this dagger directly out of the woodwork from a “picker” who found it in an abandoned storage locker just last week. The overall condition of this Gold Government Officials Dagger is excellent plus. The steel blade retains most of its factory applied cross-graining along the entire length of the blade. The blade has a few areas of light freckling, as well as light runner marks. The edges of the blade remain untouched and intact with no damage or sharpening. The Eickhorn maker mark remains dark and legible on the reverse of the blade. The base of the blade retains its original, and correct, tan leather buffer pad. The cross-guard retains most of its original factory applied gold plating, with just a slight amount of oxidization on the side of the eagle. The eagle head pommel, back strap, and grip ferrel also retain most of their gold plating, again with just a slight amount of storage wear. The original fragile yellow mother-of-pearl grip plates are tightly in place and are both without chips or cracks. The top pommel screw also remains intact and appears to possibly never have been touched. The scabbard retains nearly all of its beautiful gold gilding. This scabbard kinda “pops” when seen “in-hand”. The scabbard has very little wear with the exception of maybe some light wear at the scabbard throat body. The throat body fasting screw is intact and shows no evidence of tampering. This is the first time I have been able to offer a Gold Government Official Dagger in over ten years. No matter what level collector you are, chances are you will not find a better example anytime soon.
Historical Description: German Diplomatic and Government Official daggers are among the rarest and most sought-after of all the production daggers of the Third Reich. These were elegant pieces, made in the highest quality, befitting the high status of the diplomats and officials who carried them. Both the Diplomatic and Government Official daggers featured silver handle fittings with artificial mother-of-pearl grip plates, and an art-deco style eagle’s head pommel. The Government Official dagger was produced in greater quantity than the Diplomatic pattern. The easiest way to tell the difference between these two very similar patterns of dagger is the way the eagle head faces on the cross guard. If the eagle faces to the left it is a Government Official dagger and to the right it is a Diplomatic Official. Most exisiting examples were made by Alcoso, however other examples such as Eickhorn, Puma, etc are known to exist. Surviving examples of the Diplomatic and Government Official Daggers are very desirable among collectors. A very rare example of this dagger also exists, known as the Gold Government Official Dagger. These gold examples are believed to have been worn by officials on duty in Eastern European countries prior to the war.
