Description

Product Description:  A very nice Brehmer Luftwaffe Flak Badge in overall excellent condition. This Brehmer Luftwaffe Flak Badge is produced out of two pieces of die struck zinc. The wreath with central “88mm” cannon retains nearly all of its original silver finish, with a few areas of light patina. The separately affixed eagle is originally soldered directly to the wreath, and remains in the same condition as the wreath. The reverse hardware remains intact and with no- repairs. The sheet metal hinge and round wire “C” catch are both textbook examples of Gustavs Brehmer produced Luftwaffe Flak badges. Overall a nice Brehmer Luftwaffe Flak Badge in fantastic condition.

Historical Description: The Luftwaffe Flak Badge was instituted on 10th January 1941. The original design, an Eagle clutching a swastika flying above a raised 88mm gun emplacement and surrounded by an oakleaves wreath, is credited to Wilhelm Ernst Peekhaus, a famous German architect whose designs were favored by the German OKW and used for many other combat and qualification awards. The criteria for the awarding of the Luftwaffe Flak Badge was based upon a points system. Points were given for the downing of enemy aircraft and the assistance of the downing of aircraft by searchlight or spotting units. After accruing 16 points, the badge would be awarded. Both officers and enlisted personnel were eligible for the award.
