Product Description: This TeNo Honor Badge is a very attractive example of this hard to find and desirable political award. It is made of two pieces of stamped Tombak. The body of the badge retains all of the original bronze finish, with golden highlights contrasting with a deeper brown in the recesses of the design. The central emblem is crimped in place, and is silvered Tombak with beautiful, colorful enamel. The red and black TeNo swastika emblem shows no damage, and the silver finish shows only normal age toning. The banner at the bottom of the badge bears the year “1922.” The reverse of this TeNo honor badge is flat, with some old patina. It’s a nicely maker marked piece, with “Karl Hensler, Pzorheim” stamped on the functional attachment pin. The reverse of the swastika is stamped with the issue number “2202” and is also marked “ges. gesch.” indicating a legally protected design. The hardware on the reverse is intact and without repairs. This is a choice award that remains in excellent plus condition.
Historical Description: The Technische Nothilfe (TeNo, or TN) was a German organization originally formed in 1919 as a technical Freikorps to break labor strikes. During WWII, this organization was involved in air raid defense, as well as technical aspects of civil defense. The TeNo Honor Badge was instituted in April 1935, to retroactively honor long-serving members who had made significant contributions to the organization. The badges are marked on the front with dates ranging from 1919 to 1923, indicating the year that the recipient had joined the Technische Nothilfe, and each badge was uniquely numbered, with no correlation between the issue number and the year on the front. In June 1936, issue and wear of the TeNo Honor Badge ceased, and it was replaced with a cuff title. Because this badge was intended for issue by a relatively small organization, only to its longest serving members, and because the period of issue and wear of this badge was so short, relatively few were ever produced. It is a rare and desirable badge.
